WCDS boys finish 3rd in Greenfield tournament

WILSON -- Joel Davis earned all-tournament accolades and Wayne Country Day defeated Wake Christian, 65-52, in the third-place game of the Greenfield Christmas Tournament.
Davis led the Chargers' offense with 23 points. Lee Atkinson contributed 15 points, five rebounds and four assists. Victor Miller provided nine points, while Marlon Coley missed a double-double with seven points and nine rebounds.
Shahim Muhammed added six points.
Wayne Country Day trailed 34-28 at halftime and held Wake Christian to one third-quarter field goal.
The Chargers dropped into the consolation bracket with a 77-66 loss to state-ranked Trinity Christian of Fayetteville. Davis collected 20 points and seven rebounds, while Kris Cooley supplied 14 points.
Muhammed chipped in 13 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Wayne Country Day (11-4 overall) faces Northern Vance on Dec. 26 in the South Granville Invitational.
