Girls' basketball
Southern Wayne 52,
Goldsboro 41
* DUDLEY -- Southern Wayne played a stellar second half and rallied for a 52-41 victory over county rival Goldsboro on Friday night.
The Saints trailed throughout the first half and found themselves behind 18-15 at the intermission.
Coming out of the break, Southern Wayne head coach Ricky Lofton called for a full-court press and his team responded. The Saints capitalized off three Cougar turnovers to take the lead in the opening moments of the third quarter and kept the press on to put the game away with a 20-4 run.
Sharrone Maultsby led Southern Wayne (9-1 overall) with 15 points. Zaria Atkins added 13 points and eight assists. Latrecia Johnson finished with 12 points.
Goldsboro was paced by Tyona Moses' 16-point night. Destini Covington emerged as the only other Cougar in double figures with 10.
Goldsboro (3-6) plays Eastern Wayne at Mount Olive College on Dec. 27. The same night that Southern Wayne faces Southern Vance at Kornegay Arena.
Eastern Wayne 48, Havelock 30
* HAVELOCK -- Eastern Wayne improved to 5-0 with a 48-30 win on Friday night at Havelock.
Tianna Christopher led the Warriors with 13 points. Shontel Monk contributed nine points and Naheria Hamilton had eight points, 10 rebounds and seven blocks.
Eastern Wayne faces Goldsboro on Dec. 27 at Mount Olive College.
James Kenan 52, Princeton 29
* WARSAW -- James Kenan defeated Carolina 1-A Conference opponent Princeton 52-29 on Friday night.
Savanna Massengill led the Bulldogs with 13 points and seven rebounds. Tori Paul contributed seven points and seven rebounds.
Princeton (3-6) faces Cleveland on Dec. 27 in the Cleveland Christmas tournament.
Boys' basketball
Trinity Christian-Fayetteville 77, Wayne Country Day 66
* WILSON -- Wayne Country Day endured a 77-66 loss to Trinity Christian of Fayetteville on Friday night in the Greenfield Christmas Tournament.
The loss was the Chargers' third of the season against Trinity Christian. Joel Davis led Wayne Country Day with 20 points. Kris Cooley added 14 points. Shahim Muhammed supplied 13 points. Davis also pulled down seven rebounds. Muhammed tallied six rebounds, three assists and three steals.
The Chargers faced Wake Christian in the third-place game of the Greenfield Christmas tournament on Saturday night.
James Kenan 35, Princeton 24
* WARSAW -- James Kenan knocked off Princeton 35-24 in Carolina 1-A Conference play on Friday night.
Nick Taylor paced the Tigers with 10 points. T.J. Fullwood had seven points. Colby Norris and Michael Wooten each had six points for the Bulldogs.
Princeton (5-4, 1-1 CC) is playing in the Cleveland Christmas tournament on Dec. 27-28. James Kenan (2-0) faces East Duplin on Dec. 27 in the Duplin County Christmas tournament.
