Varsity boys
Wayne Country Day 78,
Lawrence Academy 37
* Marlon Coley led three players in double figures with 15 points and Wayne Country Day hammered Lawrence Academy, 78-37, on Friday evening.
Joel Davis and Kris Cooley contributed 14 and 10 points, respectively. Cooley pulled down six rebounds, while Davis had five. Senior guard Lee Atkinson dished out five assists.
PJ Hill contributed four assists and two steals.
Everyone played and scored for the Chargers, who remained unbeaten in four outings this season.
WCDS is the guest of Trinity Christian-Fayetteville on Nov. 21.
Faith Christian-RM 59,
Wayne Christian 26
* ROCKY MOUNT -- Wayne Christian suffered a 59-26, non-conference loss to Faith Christian of Rocky Mount on Friday evening.
Junior Austin Howell led the Eagles with 11 points.
Wayne Christian (0-2) launches its Carolina Christian 1-A Conference season at Community Christian on Tuesday. Tip-off is 6 p.m.
Varsity girls
Lawrence Academy 27,
Wayne Country Day 19
* Bailee Creger pumped in nine points for Wayne Country Day during its 27-19, non-conference loss to Lawrence Academy on Friday evening.
Lillian Freeman and Karis Hawkins supplied three points apiece.
The Chargers (1-3 overall) travel to Trinity Christian-Fayetteville on Nov. 21.
Middle schools
* Boys' basketball: Wayne Country Day 44, Pungo Christian 14 -- Marcus Metcalf led the victorious Chargers with 14 points. Caleb Brewer added eight points, while Sam Dively contributed six. David Gurley (four points), DJ Drew (four points), Evan Piech (two points) and Tony Barbour (two points) also contributed to the win. WCDS plays Goldsboro Heat on Monday.
* Boys' basketball: Faith Christian-Rocky Mount 38, Wayne Christian 26 -- Austin Kornegay logged a double-double -- 10 points, 16 rebounds -- for Wayne Christian. The Eagles (0-2) travel to Community Christian on Tuesday.
