PIKEVILLE -- Todd Morgan's coaching debut at Charles B. Aycock did not go as planned.

North Lenoir ruined the first-year head coach's opening night with a 67-45 win over the Golden Falcons on Tuesday in the season opener for both teams.

"Tonight was a tough one on the scoreboard," Morgan said. "I saw some good things and obviously I some things that we need to work on. Hopefully, starting tomorrow we can start taking steps in the right direction."

C.B. Aycock opened up a 9-4 lead early and set the pace after one quarter with an 11-9 advantage.

That's when North Lenoir picked up the defensive pressure and went on a run. The Hawks hit four 3-point shots en route to 26 points in the second quarter and seized a 35-24 lead at halftime.

"We weathered the storm early and then our defense began to feed our offense," North Lenoir head coach Anthony Loftin said. "We hit a few shots and it gave us some confidence."

North Lenoir controlled the game in the second half and grew the lead to 21 points early in the fourth quarter. The Hawks dominated the rebounding stats throughout and finished with a 37-28 edge on the boards.

"North Lenoir is always athletic and they always want to push the tempo," Morgan said. "Tonight we got into their game and it was organized chaos, which is exactly what they want. We need to learn how to get back into the game without trying to go 100 miles per hour."

Michael Williams led C.B. Aycock with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Jared Spruill added nine points.

North Lenoir finished with five players in double figures, led by Jauquaz Jones' 12 points. Javonta King and Jalen Robinson each added 11. Landon Letchworth and John Carlton finished with 10 points apiece.

North Lenoir (1-0 overall) will be the guest of Southern Wayne on Friday night. C.B. Aycock (0-1 overall) will pay a visit to South Johnston tonight.
