MOUNT OLIVE -- Mount Olive College sophomore Dylan Lafond has been named the 2013 USTFCCCA Division II Southeast Region runner-of-the-year in men's cross country.
The award comes just four days after Lafond emerged the individual champion at the Division II Southeast Regional, and helped lead the Trojan men to their first regional team crown in 12 years. MOC qualified for the NCAA Division II national championship meet for the third consecutive year.
The Trojans' Matt van Lierop was named the Southeast Region coach-of-the-year.
A New Hampshire native, Lafond posted a regional-winning time of 30 minutes, 51.3 seconds during the 10k race contested in Charlotte. He bested his nearest competitor by 14 seconds.
