WINGATE -- Jordan McCain hit a pair of free throws with 1.7 seconds remaining to lift Mount Olive to an 81-80, non-conference victory over in-state Wingate on Wednesday evening.

McCain shot 8 of 9 at the free throw line and led the Trojans with 18 points. Sophomore John Wieland knocked down a career-high 17 points. Senior Dory Hines came within one point of the first triple-double in program history with nine points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists.

Sophomores Dominique Reed and Michael Moore contributed 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Wingate got the ball back with 32 seconds left after a defensive stop and Deion Thurman kept the possession alive with an offensive rebound. He drew a foul and hit both free throws to put the Bulldogs back on top, 80-79, with 13 seconds to go in regulation.

Mount Olive played for the last shot. McCain drove the lane and got fouled on a layup attempt. He tied the game with his first free throw and connected on the second shot for the game winner.

McCain is 18 of 19 from the free throw line this season.

The Trojans (2-1 overall) conclude a four-game road swing at in-state foe Queens University of Charlotte on Saturday. Tip-off is 7:30 p.m.
