Everyone on the Wayne Country Day bench had fun.

Wilson Christian had none.

The Chargers used a 19-0 run early in the second quarter to pull away en route to a 77-36, non-conference victory on Tuesday evening. Every player dressed for the game scored at least one point for Wayne Country Day, which improved to 3-0 overall this season.

"Having a game like this is fun for the players and it's fun as a coach," first-year Wayne Country Day head coach David Flowers said. "It also helps us by allowing us to rest some of our starters going into a big game on Friday night."

Wayne Country Day used its pressure defense to take command of a sloppy game midway through the first quarter. A pair of dunks from Joel Davis and Marlon Coley set the tone, and pushed the Chargers ahead 24-12 after one quarter.

The press worked to perfection in the second quarter as Wilson Christian managed just one point in the period. Wayne Country Day led 49-13 at halftime.

Both coaches found plenty of time for reserve players in the second half. Despite the lopsided final score, Flowers insisted that his team has several things to work on at practice.

"Our full-court defense was great, but our half-court defense was not very good," Flowers said. "We committed too many fouls by reaching and stabbing at the ball instead of playing good positional defense with our feet."

Davis led the way for Wayne Country Day with 14 points and nine rebounds. Lee Atkinson added 13 points and Kris Cooley rounded out the scorers in double figures with 10 points.

Darius Coleman emerged as the only double-digit scorer for Wilson Christian with 12 points. Ben Taylor added six points and six rebounds.

Wayne Country Day plays host to Lawrence Academy on Friday night.
