Eastern Wayne gets past CB Aycock

Even the wet weather couldn't slow down Eastern Wayne's high-octane attack on Friday evening.

The Warriors tallied 445 yards of total offense and rolled past Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference rival Charles B. Aycock, 47-26, at Little Big Horn.

A number one playoff seed is on the line when Eastern Wayne (7-2 overall, 3-2 ECC) visits archrival Southern Wayne next Friday.

"We have one game to go and it is a big game," Warriors head coach Bubba Williams said. "We want to get the best seed that we possibly can in the playoffs and that means next week is huge. We had to win tonight to set ourselves up for next Friday."

Eastern Wayne got on the board first when Mitch Pike found Lavoris Vick for a 64-yard touchdown pass. C.B. Aycock answered with TJ Morrow's 1-yard scoring plunge on the final play of the first quarter.

Vick put the Warriors ahead 14-7 with a two-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter. Eastern Wayne recovered the onside kick and scored four plays later on Kamone Best's 5-yard run.

The Golden Falcons (4-7, 1-5) appeared to grab the momentum in the final minute of the half when Morrow hit Michael Eutsey for a one-yard touchdown. The feeling was short-lived as Eastern Wayne answered on the first play of its ensuing drive when Dayshawn Pridgen hauled in a 61-yard pass from Pike.

Eastern Wayne led 28-14 at halftime.

"That play was a game changer," C.B. Aycock head coach Steve Brooks said. "We had a chance to go into the half down by seven, but instead we were down 14 and had to kick off to start the third quarter."

C.B. Aycock got to within one score when Jay Suber returned an Eastern Wayne fumble 35 yards for a touchdown. The Warrior offense answered on Pike's 38-yard touchdown pass to Pridgen. Eastern Wayne put the game away late in the third when Pike found Dayshawn Boudy for a 22-yard strike that made the score 41-20.

Morrow added a rushing touchdown to complete the Golden Falcons' tally. Best capped the Warriors' scoring with a fourth-quarter touchdown.

"Our offensive line did a good job and our backs ran with power," Williams said. "We knew that we would have to make plays against (C.B. Aycock) and answer their scores. Fortunately, we did that most of the night."

Pike finished with 240 yards and four touchdowns passing on nine completions. Best led the Warriors on the ground with 158 yards and two scores. Pridgen caught six balls for 127 yards and two touchdowns.

Morrow led the way for Aycock with 150 yards passing and 45 rushing. The junior quarterback accounted for three total touchdowns. Eutsey caught seven passes for 113 yards and one score.

C.B. Aycock is off this Friday.
