Girls' tennis

Regional players determined

* SEVEN SPRINGS -- North Duplin and Spring Creek combined to qualify six players for the N.C. High School Athletic Association Class 1-A eastern regionals next Friday.

The Gators are sending their No. 1 doubles of Anna Haggerty-Maygan Jones, who claimed the Carolina 1-A Conference championships on a misty Friday afternoon.

The sister combination of Julissa and Jazmine Quintanilla will represent the Rebels in singles. Julissa won the conference singles title.

They'll be joined by teammates Delaney LoAlbo-Hope Thornton, who finished runners-up to Haggerty-Jones in doubles competition.

Volleyball

Carolina 1-A tournament

* Princeton, Rosewood, Lakewood and Spring Creek will play first-round games at home when the Carolina 1-A Conference tournament gets underway Monday.

The top-seeded Bulldogs entertain eighth-seeded Neuse Charter. The Eagles welcome seventh-seeded Hobbton, while the Leopards take on North Duplin. Fifth-seeded James Kenan is the guest of the Gators.

The semifinals and finals are Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively, at Hobbton High School.

Princeton is the two-time defending tournament champion.

Rosewood 3, North Duplin 0

* CALYPSO -- Chesney Brown cranked out nine kills and posted nine blocks as North Duplin concluded regular-season play with a three-set loss to Carolina 1-A Conference foe Rosewood.

Shaily McCarty added two kills.

The Rebels (4-12 overall, 4-10 CC) drew the No. 6 seed for the tournament and travel to third-seeded Lakewood on Monday.

Middle schools

* Boys' soccer: Spring Creek 9, Brogden 0 -- Gustavo Avalos notched a hat trick (three goals) for the Gators. Andres Amaya, Hunter Bryson, Aaron Flores, Luis Lopez, Flavio Mejia and Bryan Miranda punched in one goal apiece. Spring Creek (7-0-1 overall) visits Greenwood on Monday.

JV football

* Goldsboro 25, South Lenoir 0 -- Jordan Woody paced the Cougars' ground attack with 159 yards and two touchdowns on just seven carries. Quarterback Dayquell Dawson threw for 133 yards and a TD. Eric Bufkin and Ronnie Tookes recorded 61 and 57 yards receiving, respectively. Kori Reid logged nine tackles on defense. Keyshawn Jenkins recovered two fumbles.
