McCoy gets shutout in goal for MOC women's soccer

MOUNT OLIVE -- Stephanie McCoy recorded her first collegiate shutout in goal as Mount Olive College handed in-state foe St. Andrews a 3-0 loss Tuesday evening at Amon Field.

McCoy logged one save and lowered her goals-against-average (GAA) to 0.73 in 370 minutes of action between the pipes. The Knights recorded just four shots on goal.

MOC freshman Ellie Barnes tallied a goal and an assist within a four-minute span in the opening half. Maddy Robak contributed a goal, while Christine Rocchio converted the Trojans' first penalty kick of the season.

The Trojans attempted 20 shots.

Mount Olive College (2-6-1 overall) entertain in-state Conference Carolinas foe Pfeiffer University on Saturday. Kickoff is 7 p.m. at Amon Field.

Volleyball

MOUNT OLIVE -- Mount Olive College served 14 aces as a team and cruised past in-state Division II women's volleyball foe Elizabeth City State 25-20, 25-20, 25-19 on Tuesday evening.

Charnel Austin led the Trojans with five aces. Jordan Barnes, Montgomery Register and Nicole Sparks provided two aces apiece.

Sarah Watkins logged nine kills for Mount Olive, which prevailed for the sixth time in its last seven outings this season. Carly White added seven kills in two sets. Sparks emerged the defensive leaders with 11 digs.

Austin handed out 33 assists.

The Trojans (6-8 overall) entertain Pfeiffer U on Friday and Belmont Abbey on Saturday.
