DUDLEY -- Cleveland held Southern Wayne to 82 yards of total offense during a 37-0, non-conference win at the Doyle Whitfield Athletic Complex on Friday evening.
Tyaire Allen led the Saints' rushing attack with 62 yards on eight carries.
"Offensively, we were out-manned at the line of scrimmage," third-year SW head coach David Lee said. "They were bigger and stronger than the linemen and backs that we had trying to block them. We broke a few plays to get into their territory a couple of times, but never got close to any kind of consistency.
"They have an outstanding run defense."
The Saints missed several defensive starters. Lee praised the efforts of Chris and Darian Brinson. The defense forced three turnovers, two punts and stopped the Rams on fourth down once.
Southern Wayne (2-3 overall) returns to action Oct. 4 at Charles B. Aycock.
Chocowinity Southside 20, Spring Creek 7
* SEVEN SPRINGS -- Spring Creek battled defensively but never got its offense in gear in a 20-7 loss to Southside on Friday night.
Trae Hammonds led the Gators with 139 yards on 10 carries. Hammonds also completed four passes for 85 yards and a touchdown. Jordan Hicks had all 85 receiving yards for Spring Creek.
"I feel like the kids played hard," Spring Creek head coach Aaron Sanders said. "Last week, when we were in a situation where we needed to execute, we did. This week we didn't.
"The effort is there. The enthusiasm is there and I know the kids want to win. When we begin to mature as a team, it will."
The Gators (1-4 overall) open their Carolina 1-A Conference season Friday at Lakewood.
