PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock is finding life in the Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference less than hospitable.

J.H. Rose scored two goals in the second half and rallied for a 2-1 victory at Hardy Talton Stadium on Tuesday night. The Golden Falcons suffered their third consecutive loss in conference play and fourth overall.

"If you cannot score goals, you cannot win soccer games," C.B. Aycock assistant coach Byron Adkins said. "We had three chances to put the game away in the first half and we didn't do it. (J.H. Rose) hung around and got the win."

The night started near perfectly for Aycock when Dominick Albano took a free kick from 20 yards out and fired a bending shot past the Rampant goal keeper.

The Golden Falcons (3-5-0 overall, 0-3-0 ECC) maintained the 1-0 lead and kept the pressure on throughout the first half. In the 33rd minute Booby Hampton raced on to a loose ball and fired a shot that hit the outside of the net.

Three minutes later, Hampton beat his defender and had a one-on-one with the Rose keeper, only to see his shot hit the goalie in the chest.

Early in the second half, Hampton created another scoring chance when he threw the ball perfectly into the 18-yard box. The throw-in bounced off a pair of Golden Falcons before being cleared by the Rampants.

"We had about 10 shots and scored one goal," Adkins said. "I don't know what it is right now but we have to figure out a way to convert our chances if we want to beat good teams."

J.H. Rose (4-5-1, 2-1-0) evened the score in the 49th minute when Andrew McKinnon fired a low shot from outside the 18-yard box and watched as it slid into the low right corner of the net. The Rampants took a 2-1 lead three minutes later when Adam Chahid scored off a crossing pass from Matthew Fairbrother.

C.B. Aycock turned up the pressure in the final 10 minutes, but came away with nothing to show for its effort.

The Golden Falcons travel to D.H. Conley on Thursday night.
