Southern Wayne's Marquis Baldwin turned in a stellar individual performance in Southern Wayne's 42-14 loss on Friday night at Goldsboro.

Baldwin rushed for 139 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries. Baldwin had nine carries of five yards or more and he accounted for 139 of 229 yards of the team's total offense.

Not just for kicks

CLAYPSO -- North Duplin has several two-way starters.

Emiliano Mora also stood out in two facets against South Lenoir on Friday evening. Mora finished as the Rebels' leading tackler on defense in the 15-7 defeat. He also had a career-best game punting the football with three kicks of 52, 60 and 67 yards.

"Emiliano has had some really long punts this year for us," North Duplin head coach Hugh Martin said. "He boomed a kick over 60 yards against Southside, too. It's a great asset to have on a team when your punter can pin the other team deep."

A bad few minutes

SPIVEY'S CORNER -- Rosewood got off to a bad start and could not recover against Midway on Friday night.

The first quarter proved costly.

The Raiders recovered a fumble on the opening kickoff and scored four plays later. Rosewood went three-and-out before the second Midway touchdown. A bad snap on a Rosewood punt led to a third score and the Raiders closed the quarter with a 23-yard touchdown run by Jeremy Robinson.

"We really played a relatively close game from the second quarter on," Rosewood head coach Robert Britt said. "But when you look up at the end of the first and its 28-0, it's just too much to come back from."

Must practice well

Eastern Wayne head coach Bubba Williams is still looking for one week of consistent, good practices from his team.

If that happens, the Warriors could be even more dangerous.

Williams and his staff will no doubt work on blocking drills and look to improve timing on offense this week. Dropped passes and 13 penalties for 130 yards prevented the Warriors from possibly putting more points on the board in their 43-22 rout of Red Springs on Friday evening.

Eastern Wayne collected 367 yards on 54 plays. However, two holding penalties negated touchdown runs. Quarterback Mitch Pike had a TD pass dropped in the end zone.

The Warriors also converted just 3 of 12 third-down plays.
