ELIZABETH CITY -- Ryan Faucette continued his weekend tear at the plate.
Wayne County Post 11 racked up another mercy-rule win.
Faucette swatted his first-ever career Senior Legion home run during a 19-2, mercy-rule shellacking of Area I East Division foe Albemarle-Elizabeth City Post 84 at Northeastern High School on a breezy, hot Sunday afternoon.
Post 11 extended its modest win streak to four games and vaulted to the top of the division standings at 5-1 heading into today's contest at nemesis Wilson Post 13. Game time is 7 p.m. at Fleming Stadium.
In three games, Faucette batted a crisp .571 (8-for-14), collected eight RBI and scored five runs. His two-run, fourth-inning homer against Albemarle-EC gave Wayne County five dingers for the season by four different players.
"Ryan is playing excellent right now," Post 11 assistant coach Jackson Massey said. "He is becoming a leader on this team and a game changer offensively. He has been a very tough out all season long."
Cody Wendorf won the battle of the left-handers during a 71-pitch outing. A Mount Olive College signee, Wendorf (3-0) permitted two earned runs on two hits, two walks and five strikeouts in a four-inning stint.
Kevin Williams provided one inning of one-hit, one-strikeout relief.
Albemarle-EC starter Cameron Horn didn't fare as well. The College of Albemarle southpaw lasted just one-third of inning and surrendered six runs (four earned) on four walks, no hits, a hit batsman, a wild pitch and a balk.
Post 84 used four pitchers in the 2-hour affair which was halted after five innings due the 15-run rule.
Wayne County (11-2 overall) batted around in the opening inning and built an 8-0 advantage despite getting just two hits. Post 11 tacked on multiple runs in each inning from that point and finished the day with 10 hits.
Faucette batted 3-for-5. Garrett Joyner (two RBI), Chad Murphy (two RBI) and Jamie Dove (two RBI) contributed two hits apiece. Duane Gurganus added a double and two RBI.
Joyner, lead-off batter Adam Pate, Gurganus and Faucette each scored three runs. Pate, Faucette and Joyner combined for five stolen bases.
"We came out swinging the bats and we did a good job of staying on a line, and being aggressive on the base paths," Massey said.
