MOC men's volleyball team tops Lees-McRae

MOUNT OLIVE -- Mount Olive fell from the unbeaten ranks overall, but remained perfect on the Conference Carolinas men's volleyball scene Saturday evening.

The Trojans dispatched in-state archrival Lees-McRae 25-22, 24-26, 25-21, 25-21 after suffering a four-set loss 24 hours earlier to Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association power Ball State (Ohio) University of the Division I ranks.

Angel Dache posted 21 kills and Ben Casado handed out a career-high 50 assists in the four-set triumph over LMC. The Trojans owned a 53-45 advantage in team kills, despite hitting just .248 for the match compared to .271 for the Bobcats.

Andreas Lengler added 10 kills, while senior Adam Miracle chipped in nine kills. Senior libero Dan Arnold recorded 11 of the team's 27 digs on defense.

The teams combined for 33 service errors.

Mount Olive endured a 19-25, 28-26, 22-25, 20-25 loss to the Cardinals on Friday. Dache logged a season-high 20 kills and recorded four blocks, while Casado distributed 45 assists among five hitters.

Lengler collected 12 kills.

Miracle supplied eight kills, eight digs and four blocks. Richard Hesse contributed three service aces and four blocks.

Ball State cranked out 61 kills and finished with a 14.5-10 advantage in team blocks. The teams combined for 13 service aces. The Bobcats claimed a 3-0 sweep of Barton on Saturday afternoon.

The Trojans (5-1 overall, 4-0 CC) entertain first-year league member Coker (S.C.) College on Tuesday. First serve is 7 p.m.
