Area games cancelled, rescheduled

Some basketball contests have been rescheduled.
Rosewood entertains Carolina 1-A Conference rival North Duplin on Monday. The varsity girls tip off at 6 p.m.
Four conference matchups are next Wednesday. Goldsboro, the Carolina leader in boys' and girls' basketball, is the guest of county foe Spring Creek. Charles B. Aycock welcomes Eastern Carolina 3-A foe South Johnston, Cleveland invades Southern Wayne and Princeton travels to Ayden-Grifton.
Eastern Wayne has the bye date in ECC play today.
Students in the Lenoir County Public School systems were dismissed at 11:30 a.m. North Lenoir's home outing with Eastern Carolina 3-A foe Triton has been rescheduled for Monday.
Rosewood head wrestling coach Bill Edmundson said the team would not attend the Battle at the Bears' Den, which is hosted by Gray's Creek, on Saturday due to the impending weather. Aycock, Eastern Wayne and Goldsboro are also slated to wrestle in either individual or dual-team tournaments out of town.
Michael Taylor, athletics director at Wayne Country Day, said Friday morning that home varsity contests against The Epiphany School remain on schedule for Saturday. The girls tip off at 4 p.m.
Wayne Christian's home game against Carolina Christian 1-A Conference foe Lee Christian has been postponed to a later date. Faith Christian's trip to Raleigh Christian on the N.C. Christian Schools Association scene was canceled with no make-up date announced.
Forecasters say up to 4 inches of snow is possible at the higher elevations of the northwestern mountains around Boone. Just 1 or 2 inches of snow and sleet are expected to blanket most of the rest of the state.
Snow, sleet and freezing rain was expected to fall starting around midday today. There was no rain, sleet or snow falling in the state this morning and the southeastern part of North Carolina is expected to avoid frozen precipitation.
