PIKEVILLE -- Cleveland edged Charles B. Aycock 42-40 in the finals of the Pilkington Memorial Duals on Saturday.
Rams' heavyweight Bryer Rogers claimed a pivotal match against the Golden Falcons' Jorge Flores after an knee injury in the second period left Flores unable to continue.
Aycock's Zach Howard, Jacob Dickenson, Jordan Bailey, Daniel Romo, Khaliel Owens and Broc Doyle each went 5-0 during the tournament. Romo recorded four pins while Owens had three.
"It was a perfect day right up to Jorge's knee injury," Golden Falcons' head coach Marc Peck said. "Down 16-18, we knew if Jorge could repeat his effort from earlier in the season (a 4-1 victory over Rogers), we would be up 19-18 at the turn and having overcome their strength, the match would be ours to lose."
Aycock defeated Goldsboro, D.H. Conley, Wilson Hunt and North Johnston on its way to the finals.
