Goldsboro head coach Russell Stephens had been waiting all season for his forwards to have a break-out performance. Stepehens got his wish on Thursday night.

Damarian Henderson scored 30 points and grabbed five rebounds to lead Goldsboro past C.B. Aycock 84-59 at Norvell T. Lee Gymnasium. Lonzia Tyson added 14 points and eight rebounds for the Cougars.

"I think that tonight is the best we have played as a team all season," Stephens said. "I have been looking for our big guys to have a night like they had tonight. Hopefully it was a sign of things to come as we get into conference play."

The night did not start well for the home team as C.B. Aycock jumped out to a 23-17 lead after the first quarter. Golden Falcons' forward Michael Williams accounted for 12 points in the period. A defensive adjustment in the second quarter by the Cougars slowed the visitors' pace and Henderson began to take over.

Henderson had tallied 20 points at the intermission.

"We did not play at all over the holiday break and it showed tonight," C.B. Aycock head coach Steve Moats said. "Henderson is a very talented player and he did a little bit of everything against us."

Goldsboro (6-6 overall) put the game away in the opening two minutes of the second half with a 7-0 run. Both coaches made time for their reserves in the fourth quarter as the Cougars lead grew to 25 points.

Rasheen Artis finished with 12 points and Myron Carmon added 11 points for Goldsboro.

"Tonight we took good shots and we were able to knock down a couple of jumpers early which allowed us to get the ball inside," Stephens said. "We want to work inside-out, but in order to do that we have to make a few shots early and create lanes to get the ball down low."

Michael Williams led C.B. Aycock with 20 points and seven rebounds. Shakel Powell added 10 points in the defeat.

C.B. Aycock (6-7 overall) visits Eastern Wayne tonight. Goldsboro plays host to North Duplin on Jan. 11.
