NASHVILLE -- Tara Simmons placed third overall in the N.C. High School Athletic Association Class 3-A eastern regional and will defend her state title next week at Pinehurst.
Simmons entered the final two holes with a two-stroke lead, but stumbled on the challenging Birchwood Country Club course. The senior, who has verbally committed to Dartmouth University, double-bogeyed the 17th hole and shot a quintuple bogey on the par-4 18th.
Teammates Madison Aycock and Madison Batts also participated in the one-day, 18-hole event.
"We didn't play too well as a team," CBA head coach Roger Rhodes said. "Overall, we have had a great season and a good time."
