Thursday preps digest: EW tennis nets victory over Fike

* WILSON -- Eastern Wayne opened its tennis season with a 5-2 victory over Wilson Fike on Wednesday afternoon.
Savannah Sutton, Grace Delbridge, McKenna Dove and Cameron Dove each won their respective singles match for the Warriors.
Eastern Wayne's duo of Blake Govan-Delbridge claimed the only doubles point of the night. The other two doubles matches were suspended due to severe weather.
Eastern Wayne (1-0 overall) travels to South Johnston in the Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference opener for both teams next Tuesday.

Goldsboro 0
* NEWTON GROVE -- Tri-County 1-A member Hobbton got off to a hot start and never looked back in a 25-20, 25-17, 25-21 win over Goldsboro on Wednesday afternoon.
Brandy Johnson led the Cougars with eight kills. Nikki Tyler finished with four service aces.
Goldsboro (0-2 overall) entertains Rocky Mount Prep today.
JV sports
* Volleyball: Goldsboro d. Hobbton 22-25, 25-22, 25-13 -- Shamonica Artis paced the Cougars with three kills. Ebony Kornegay and Paige Evers each finished with six aces. Goldsboro improved to 1-1 overall.
