Charles B. Aycock salvaged the final game of a three-game series by beating county rival Wayne North 11-1 in five innings on Thursday night.

After failing to get big hits in a pair of losses on Tuesday and Wednesday, Aycock came out swinging in the first inning.

Garrett Joyner led off the inning with a double and immediately scored on Hank Smitherman's single. Smitherman later crossed home on a double off by Tim Naughton to make it 2-0.

"We have been waiting too long to score runs lately," C.B. Aycock head coach Nelson Cunningham said. "Tonight I think maybe the guys figured out that runs in the first inning count just as much as runs in the fifth inning."

C.B. Aycock (4-3 overall) added four more runs in the second inning.

Joyner provided the big blast with an RBI triple that opened the flood gates. Noah West and Naughton each followed with RBI singles and a fourth run scored on a wild pitch.

Wayne North tried to claw back into the game with one run in the bottom of the third. Zach Smith drew a walk, stole second and scored on Jeremy Lancaster's RBI single.

The visitors answered with one run in the fourth to make the score 7-1 and ended the game one inning later with a four-run outburst that was fueled by two North errors.

Gregory Johnson went four innings on the mound to earn the victory. The left-hander allowed three hits and walked four batters. Kyle Davis pitched one inning of scoreless relief to end the game.

"Greg didn't have his best command, but he battled through it," Cunningham said. "I think he felt more comfortable out of the stretch, so he actually pitched better with a runner on base."

Brandon Johnson took the loss for Wayne North.

C.B. Aycock plays host to Rocky Mount on Monday, while Wayne North (5-3) entertains Wayne West on Tuesday.
