Aycock spring athletes receive awards

PIKEVILLE -- Brooke Bell and Connor Davis, who helped lead Charles B. Aycock to its first-ever state championship in softball, were accorded the school's top female honors during a season-ending athletics awards ceremony.

Bell, a senior pitcher, received the athlete-of-the-year award. Davis, who signed to play volleyball at William Peace University, picked up the sportsmanship award.

Senior wrestler David Romo earned male athlete-of-the-year accolades. Baseball standout Blake Sutton collected the male sportsmanship award.

Athletes were recognized in 10 sports:

• Men's golf: Most Improved -- Matthew Ivey; MVP -- Battle Burnette.

• Men's track and field: Coach's Awards -- Marvin Alexander and Treseon Cash; Co-MVP -- Austin Snowden and Cade Ivey.

• Women's track and field: Coach's Award -- Jasmin Perry; Most Improved -- Jade Creel; Co-MVP -- Emily Martin and Katie Johnson.

• Men's tennis: Outstanding singles -- Austin Walker; Most Competitive -- Addison Vail; Co-MVP -- Will Hoff and Michael Kearney.

• Varsity softball: Coach's Award -- Reagan Herndon; Most Improved -- Misty Edwards; Co-MVP -- Brooke Bell and Meredith Burroughs.

• Varsity baseball: Falcon Award -- Avery Anderson, Justin Barbour, Collin DuBose, Blake Sutton, Bryant Stafford, Cameron Taylor and Sam Pierce.

• Women's varsity soccer: Coach's Player-of-the-Year -- Samantha Parrish; Defensive POY -- Jaden Thames; Offensive POY -- Emily Borel; MVP -- Cheyenne Warrick.

• JV softball: Coach's Award -- Haley Rose; MVP -- Savannah Briggs.

• JV soccer: Offensive POY -- Jessica Cosme; Defensive POY -- Marian McHale.

• JV baseball :Offensive POY -- Garrett Joyner; Pitching Award -- Logan Runyon; MVP -- Timothy Naughton.
