CAMERON -- South Brunswick triumphed in seven of eight contested matches and eliminated Charles B. Aycock, 43-30, from the N.C. High School Athletic Association Class 3-A dual-team playoffs.

The Cougars, the No. 1 seed from the Waccamaw Conference, advanced to the eastern semifinals against perennial power and former state champion Hillsborough Orange today. The other semifinal pits Mid-State champ Eden Morehead against Coastal runner-up West Carteret.

The survivor wrestles for the state title Saturday.

Aycock (32-6 overall) lost an opening-round dual-team playoff for the second consecutive year and fourth time overall since 2008.

"South Brunswick was a tough draw," said CBA head coach Marc Peck. "They specialize in an offensive technique (leg riding) we had not seen much this season, and it posed a real challenge for us. This was a wake-up call for the level of competition we will face in the individual regionals.

"We may face several South Brunswick wrestlers and now we know what to work on to be successful."

Aycock co-captain Preston Tucker earned his 100th career win with a pin of the Cougars' Bailey Hill at 145 pounds. Teammates Jorge Flores (220 pounds), Zack Howard (106), Nick Jones (113) and Jordan Bailey (120) each drew a forfeit after the outcome had been decided.

South Brunswick (24-4) recorded three pins, three decisions, one major decision and two forfeits on the night.
