PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock may finally be back on the right track.

After a slow start to the season, the Golden Falcons have hit their stride with back-to-back wins. Following a victory at Wilson Fike on Friday, Aycock jumped back into Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference play with a 5-2 win over Southern Wayne on Monday.

"Tonight makes two good games in a row for us which is a promising sign," Golden Falcons head coach Kevin Adkins said. "Our defense has picked up on what we have been trying to teach all season and that has opened up the midfield."

C.B. Aycock opened the scoring in the sixth minute when Chase Thompson collected a loose ball that came off a corner kick from Ronnie Person. Thompson fired a shot past the Saints' keeper and set the early tone.

Two minutes later, Collin Zacharzuk scored when he followed a shot from Trey Millard and knocked in a rebound. Juan Pina upped the Golden Falcons' lead to 3-0 in the 20th minute when he snared a loose ball and deposited a point-blank shot.

"Southern Wayne was playing a 3-3-4 formation and that opened up the midfield early on," Adkins said. "We were able to capitalize on two good scoring chances in the first 10 minutes and that allowed our guys to relax and play with confidence."

The Saints got on the board in the 31st minute on a goal by Chama Rodriquez.

The Golden Falcons put the game away in the opening moments of the second half when Pina tallied his second goal of the night when he booted home a rebound. Pina later tallied an assist on a goal by Tim Naughton that rounded out the home scoring.

Southern Wayne's second goal came from Luis Castaneda in the 61st minute.

C.B. Aycock out-shot Southern Wayne 14-9 on the night. Nick Hilker tallied five saves in the win. Zacharzuk added one save during a two-minute stay at keeper after Hilker was assessed a yellow card in the second half.

C.B. Aycock (7-3-0 overall, 3-3 ECC) will travel to Triton on Wednesday.

Southern Wayne (0-7-1, 0-4) will play host to Cleveland tonight at 7 p.m. in the continuation of a suspended game from earlier in the season. The game will begin in the 12th minute with the Saints ahead 1-0 on the scoreboard.
