Rosewood at Goldsboro soccer

Rosewood played its first nine games of the season without a win.
Suddenly, the Eagles have won twice in three days.
Jan Andre Verceles Zara provided a key insurance goal and Rosewood claimed its second win of the season in a 3-2 victory on Wednesday night at Carolina 1-A Conference foe Goldsboro.
Ethan Minshew nearly got the Cougars on the scoreboard in the 12th minute when his shot hit the scoreboard. Goldsboro keeper Luke McAlduff turned away Tan Truong's point blank shot in the 22nd minute.
Bret Robinson fed a through ball to Matt Davis who beat McAlduff to put the Eagles in front 1-0 in the 25th minute. Robinson's free kick clanged off the post in the 38th minute. Moments later, Robinson fed Dee Mabry off a corner kick and Mabry extended the lead to 2-0.
"We told our guys Goldsboro just played a game where they put five goals in the back of the net," Rosewood head coach Eddie Maldonado said. "I think so far this year we've only scored four or five goals. When we got opportunities we had to take advantage of it."
Osiel Valdes pulled the Cougars to within 2-1 in the 53rd minute.
Robinson collected his third assist of the night on Verceles Zara's goal in the 63rd minute that stretched the margin to 3-1. The Eagles had a pair of goals waived off in the second half on offsides calls.
"The third goal was huge," Maldonado said. "We've played some good competition to lead up to this and hopefully that's why we've got these first two W's. Now we've got two wins to show we are getting better."
Minshew scored on a penalty kick in the 77th minute to trim the deficit to 3-2.
"Our kids don't quit," Goldsboro head coach Jim Phillips said. "The guys on the field left it out there. They ran hard. We didn't get the breaks we needed and we didn't get the calls we needed. There's a bright future here and I hope these guys don't give up."
Rosewood (2-8-1 overall, 2-0-0 CC) finished with an 18-14 edge in shots on goal. Daniel Herring recorded 10 saves for the Eagles. McAlduff also tallied 10 saves.
Rosewood visits defending league champion Spring Creek on Monday. The Cougars (1-9-1, 0-2) entertain the Gators next Wednesday.
