ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Four Mount Olive College runners eclipsed the existing eighth-fastest 8k time in school history during the Winthrop University Men's Cross Country Invitational.

Dalton Souza, who holds the MOC school record, ran the course in 26 minutes, 11.26 minutes. Ronnie Sturgill turned in a time of 26:15.58, while Kerry "Bear" Maloney logged a time of 26:19.92. The trio recorded a 6-7-8 finish overall.

Fellow Trojan Nick Washizaki, a freshman, was 10th in 26:23.15. Erasmo Ordonez rounded out the team's scoring with a 12th-place run of 26:26.31. The Trojans, ranked No. 6 in the Division II Southeast Region, took six of the top eight spots among the 54 non-Division I competitors and ended up second behind Winthrop in the team-title chase.

On the women's side, MOC's Chelsea Long crossed the line fifth in 18:33.79 and seized fifth out 121 runners during the women's portion of the invitational. Long came within two seconds of her school-record time she established two weeks ago at the MOC Invitational.

The Trojans' Amber Thompson, Courtney Seifert, Jess McKinnis and Crissy Petro captured the top five spots among competitors from non-Division I schools. Thompson shattered her personal best time by 25 seconds. McKinnis and Petro also recorded their best times.

Mount Olive returns to action Sept. 30 at the Paul Short Invitational, which is hosted by Lehigh (Pa.) University.
