PIKEVILLE -- Eastern Wayne head soccer coach Jorg Wagner yells the same two words about 20 times per game.

"Just shoot," Wagner tells his team repeatedly.

On Monday night the simple instruction paid off as the Warriors claimed a 3-2 victory at Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference rival Charles B. Aycock. A late goal that escaped the Golden Falcons' keeper decided the contest.

"Tonight there were five goals and really only one or two of them were good goals," Wagner said. "There were a few gifts out there and we got the better of it."

In an incredibly physical game, the Warriors got a break in the 16th minute when a breakdown in the Golden Falcons' defense led to a penalty inside the 18-yard box. Adrian Thompson drilled the penalty kick and put the visitors ahead.

C.B. Aycock answered in the 35th minute when Collin Zacharzuk beat two Eastern Wayne defenders and scored at point-blank range.

"I thought overall we played pretty well," Golden Falcons head coach Kevin Adkins said. "We got chances by playing some good balls forward and we had our chances."

Eastern Wayne retook the lead less than a minute later when Deonte' Davis collected a crossing pass from Steven Taylor. Davis scored with an easy shot into the corner of the net and gave the Warriors a 2-1 lead at the half.

In the 35th minute, things spilled over physically when an Aycock defender was given a red card and sent off the field. Playing with 10 men, the Golden Falcons stepped up the pace and actually tied the game when Chase Thompson collected a loose ball, raced 30 yards and fired a shot past the Warriors' keeper.

Eastern Wayne tallied the game-winning goal in the 65th minute when Ryan Jackson booted a 30-yard lob shot that crept over the hands of the C.B. Aycock keeper and into the net.

"We gave up two easy goals and it cost us," Adkins said. "One on a penalty kick and one on a ball that we save 99 out of 100 times."

C.B. Aycock (4-3-0 overall, 2-3 ECC) travels to Princeton on Wednesday, while Eastern Wayne (3-6-0, 3-1) plays host to Triton.
