The top golfers in Wayne County put tees in the ground and made their best swings on the second day of the Wayne County Amateur at Goldsboro Municipal Golf Club on Saturday afternoon.
When the final putt fell in the cup, a few familiar names stood atop the leaderboard.
Former Mount Olive College golf team member Clark Rose is the leader in the Open Division following a pair of rounds under par. Rose fired a round of 70 at Lane Tree Golf Club on Friday and followed it with a 66 at Goldsboro Municipal.
Rose has been a staple of the Championship Flight over the past three years. The pack chasing him is also filled with names from past leaders. Stan Adams is three strokes behind and Dane Jones is six back.
Saturday proved to be a good day for players with the last name Rose, as Tim Rose (unrelated) followed Clark with a round of 71 to lead the Senior Division. Tim Rose carded a 69 on Friday for a 140 total.
"Today was kind of a grinding day for me overall," Tim Rose said. "I got behind a little bit early with a couple of bogeys but I was able to pull it together and make a couple of birdies to kind of salvage the afternoon."
Jeffrey Jackson sits in second place in the division two strokes behind. Jeff Garris and Ben King are tied four shots back.
In the Super Senior division, former champion John Zambelli has the lead with a 144 total. Sprunt Hill has a two-day total of 147. Joe McLamb and John Nixon are tied six strokes back at 152.
Play will conclude today at Walnut Creek Country Club. The leaders will tee off at 2 p.m.
