WINTERVILLE -- It was a beating of epic proportions.

So bad that there was little to be said after the final out because the scoreboard spoke loud and clear.

Charles B. Aycock hammered six home runs and demolished South Central 20-1 in five innings at the Pitt County Spring Invitational on Monday night.

Coming off of back-to-back losses, the Golden Falcons were on a mission from the opening pitch.

"I flat out challenged my guys when we got on the bus today to come out and play hard for an entire game," C.B. Aycock head coach Charles Davis said. "I thought we had the right mindset early on and that showed in our hitting."

Adam Pate led off the game with a solo home run.

Cameron Taylor, Jon Taylor, Bryant Stafford, Tyler Farmer and Jeff Davis each followed with a base hit. Collin DuBose was hit by a pitch and Mick Walker broke the game open with a grand slam that pushed the score to 8-0 after just eight batters.

South Central starting pitcher Connor Britt exited the game without recording an out. His bullpen mates didn't fare any better.

Pate blasted his second home run of the inning with one out and was followed by base hits from Cameron Taylor and Jon Taylor. An error in the outfield allowed both runners to score and capped an 11-run first inning for C.B. Aycock.

That lead would be more than enough for starting pitcher Aaron Champion, who earned the mound win with a complete-game performance.

"I thought Champion did exactly what I wanted him to do with a big lead and that was pound the strike zone," Davis said. "He hit his spots and we played pretty good defense behind him and that all added up to a win."

C.B. Aycock added three runs in the third inning on a home run by Stafford. A two-run blast by DuBose and a solo shot by Pate -- his third home run of the game -- capped a four-run fifth inning.

Pate finished 4-for-4 with three home runs, a double and five RBI.

"Adam squared the ball up and he didn't try to hit it over the fence," Davis said. "He is our lead-off man, and I reminded him of that after each home run, but as long as he is hitting good pitches I will take it any time."

C.B. Aycock finishes the Pitt County Spring Invitational tonight with a date against J.H. Rose at Guy Smith Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
