GREENWOOD, S.C. -- Fabrizio Ceppi carded an even-par 72 and Mount Olive College is 12th overall in the team standings after opening-round play of the Bearcat Golf Classic.
Ceppi is tied for 19th overall. Teammates Mark O'Hara, Dalton Gore and Scott Woodard are all tied at 47th after shooting a first-round 75. David Shields shot 76 and is tied for 55th.
Scores were low and the competition tight after morning rains left the par-72, 6,800-yard Greenwood Country Club course ripe for scoring. There were more individual scores in the 60s than 80 or above, and 18 players broke par. Despite being well back in the standings, the Trojans are just 10 shots out of second place, and 14 of the 17 teams in the event are within a range of 13 shots.
Georgia Southwestern is the team leader.
Final-round play began this morning.
