RALEIGH -- Mount Olive's Dalton Souza and Paul Hoffman each recorded a Conference Carolinas-best time during the Raleigh Relays contested this weekend at N.C. State University.

Souza claimed the top result in the 10,000-meter run this week, posting a time of 31 minutes, 46.04 seconds -- 75 seconds than the previous best held by Trojan teammate Ronnie Sturgill. Souza had the second-best time among Division II competitors in the event, and took 16th overall.

Hoffman surpassed the league's best steeplechase mark that Souza had set just one week ago, recording a time of 9:33.46 that was 11 seconds better than his teammate. Hoffman also finished second among NCAA Division II competition at the Raleigh Relays, and 11th of 36 overall.

MOC's Jose Palenzuela set a new mark in the 110-meter hurdles after winning his preliminary heat with a time of 15.69. The 400-meter relay team set a new record with a time of 44.68, as did the 3,200-meter relay squad with its time of 8:11.14.

On the women's side, freshmen Kierra Butler and Chelsea Long had a hand in five of the seven school records broken by the women's track and field team at the Raleigh Relays.

Butler improved her own record in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:06.89, which is the best in Conference Carolinas this year by nearly a second. She was eighth-best among NCAA Division II participants in the event, and 48th of 75 overall in a field made up largely of NCAA Division I competition.

Butler also ran one leg of the 400-meter relay, joining Wislande Maxy, Cierra Butler and Alaytra Carswell in recording a school-record mark of 49.40 seconds.

Long posted a time of 4:56.09 in the 1,500 meters (28 of 75 overall) and 18:10.13 in the 5,000 meters (24 of 71 overall), both new school records. Her 5,000 meter time was the second-best in the league this year, and the 1,500 meter time was the fourth-best in the conference in 2011.

Long also ran a leg on the 3,200-meter relay team -- along with Jenessa Martinez, Courtney Siefert and Tiondra Miller -- that posted a school record of 10:20.78.

Also setting school marks this week were Amber Thompson in the steeplechase (12:23.32) and Shae Garner in the hammer throw (34.01 meters, or 111 feet, 7 inches).

The Trojans return to action Apr. 1-2 at Liberty University.
