C.B. Aycock 9, North Lenoir 0

* LaGRANGE -- Charles B. Aycock wasted no time dispatching Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference rival North Lenoir 9-0 on Monday afternoon.

Will Hoff, Michael Kearney, Bradley Wilson, Addison Vail, Austin Walker and Rex Rose each claimed a victory during singles action.

The tandems of Jackson Yelverton-John Guthrie, Hoff-Rose and Wilson-Walker each prevailed in doubles play.

C.B. Aycock (11-1 overall, 7-0 ECC) will host South Johnston on Wednesday.

Eastern Wayne 9, Cleveland 0

* Eastern Wayne rolled through singles play and eased past Cleveland High School on the Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference tennis scene Monday afternoon.

Mike Barnette, Steven Taylor, Rafael Guerra, Joseph Chaney, Mitchell Kaspar and Cole Newsome each earned a win during singles play.

The duos of Rex Smith-Alan Nilles, Barnette-Kaspar and Chaney-Newsome each claimed a point duing doubles action.

Eastern Wayne (8-2 overall, 7-1 ECC) will travel to Southern Nash on Wednesday.

Blazers' 12-U team finishes 2-2

* RALEIGH -- The Wayne County Blazers 12-Under boys' basketball team finished runner-up in the USBA "March Madness" tournament.

Isaiah Hatchett pumped in 21 points and pulled down six rebounds in the Blazers' opening-round, 71-35 loss to the Raleigh Caps. DJ Waters contributed eight points and three steals.

Jacob Norris logged a double-double -- 11 points, 12 rebounds -- in the Blazers' 54-41 victory over the Royal Knights in pool play. Hatchett just missed a double-double with 11 points and eight rebounds.

Aaron Smith supplied 10 points and seven boards.

In bracket play, Y'Oente Royal notched a double-double (10 points, 11 rebounds) in the Blazers' 48-41 triumph over the NC Wildcats. Norris added nine points and eight rebounds, while Hatchett chipped in eight points and six rebounds.

The Blazers faced the Caps again for the tournament title.

Hatchett posted 15 points and 15 rebounds in a 60-43 defeat. Waters had 11 points and three rebounds. Norris scored eight points and pulled down four boards.

"(We) played this rematch with a lot of heart," said Blazers coach Danny Norris. "Again, (we) could not overcome their sharp shooting."

It was the season-opening, AAU tournament for the Blazers.
