MOUNT OLIVE -- Aubrey Reinhard cranked out six hits and drove in five runs, sparking Mount Olive College to a doubleheader sweep of in-state softball rival Shaw University on Thursday afternoon.
The Trojans prevailed 5-2 and 10-8 at Nancy Chapman Cassell Field.
Katie Devenuto had two hits in the opening contest, and Kalie Smith drove in a pair of runs in the nightcap to help the Trojans improve to 6-11 on the season.
Shaw (3-19 overall) managed just seven hits in the two games combined, but four of those came from Monica Grimmage, who also had four RBI and hit her third home run of the year in game two.
Freshman pitcher Carly White tossed a complete-game two-hitter in the opener for her first collegiate victory. White walked three and struck out five, giving up one earned run.
Mount Olive jumped all over the Bears to begin the second contest, scoring five times in the bottom of the first on a pair of hits off Shaw starter Daniela Archibold (1-5) and two costly Shaw errors. Reinhard had the big hit in the inning, a two-run double to center.
With the Trojans holding a seemingly comfortable 10-5 advantage, White -- in relief of Sarah Saunders -- retired the first two Shaw batters in the seventh inning and had the Bears down to their final pitch. However, a walk on a full count pitch and three Trojan errors opened the door for three Shaw runs.
White halted the rally by getting a groundout to second to end the game.
