PIKEVILLE -- Freshman Addison Vail rallied from an opening-set loss, and Charles B. Aycock blanked North Lenoir, 9-0, in an Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference boys' tennis match Thursday afternoon.

The Hawks' Jay Horne rolled past Vail, 6-1, in the first set at No. 2 singles. Vail claimed the next two sets and match 1-6, 6-3, 10-7.

"I was proud of the way Addison fought back to turn his match around and win the third-set tiebreak," said Aycock head coach Luke Vail. "It was a total team victory with consistent play in both singles and doubles."

The Golden Falcons Will Hoff, Bradley Wilson, Michael Kearney, Austin Walker and Rex Rose each secured a straight-set singles win. The top-seeded Hoff and third-seeded Kearney didn't lose a game, while Walker dropped just one game at the No. 5 slot.

Hoff-Vail, Wilson-Walker and Kearney-Rose each triumphed in doubles.

Aycock (3-0 overall, 2-0 ECC) returns to action Monday at Wilson Fike. First serve is 4 p.m.
