Girls' soccer

Spring Creek 0
DUDLEY -- Southern Wayne found the mark early and often in a 6-0, non-conference win over county rival Spring Creek on Monday afternoon.
The game was the season-opener for both squads.
Nichole Casto paced the Saints with four goals and an assist. Cynthia Rivera added two goals in the win. Southern Wayne keeper Savanna Brown stopped the Gators' only shot of the night.
Stacie Salter made 17 stops on 23 shots in the net for Spring Creek (0-1 overall).
Southern Wayne (1-0-0 overall) entertains Rosewood tonight.
C.B. Aycock 5, Rosewood 1
PIKEVILLE -- Chayenne Warwick tallied a hat trick (three goals) and Charles B. Aycock raced past Rosewood, 5-1, on Monday night.
Madison Mercer added two goals in the Golden Falcons' victory. Laura Dugan finished with five saves in the net.
C.B. Aycock (1-0-0 overall) travels to Wilson Hunt tonight. Rosewood (0-1-0) will be the guest of Southern Wayne.
Softball
Hobbton 18, Goldsboro 1
Goldsboro failed to slow down the Hobbton offense in an 18-1, non-conference loss to open the season on Monday afternoon.
Taylor Lane led the Cougars at the plate with one hit and on RBI. Bailee Ellis added the Cougars' other hit of the game.
Goldsboro (0-1 overall) will play host to Jones Senior on Thursday.
Boys' tennis
Wilson Fike 8, North Lenoir 1
WILSON -- Wilson Fike swept through singles play and bested North Lenoir 8-1 on Monday afternoon.
The tandem of Tyler Gray and Chris Thaxton picked up the Hawks only win of the day in doubles action.
North Lenoir (0-1 overall) plays host to Cleveland today.
Middle schools
* Softball: Grantham 8, Rosewood 4 -- Kelsey Hayes belted two hits including a triple to lead Grantham past Rosewood on Monday afternoon. Aubrey Sasser and Rachel Grady also added two hits in the win. Callie Thornton emerged as the leading hitter for Rosewood with a home run.
* Baseball: Mount Olive 8, Dillard 7 -- Mount Olive scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to edge Dillard on Monday afternoon. Tyrez Hill and Quaris Hill each tallied two hits for Dillard. Miguel Lugo struck out 10 batters in a losing effort.
* Baseball: Spring Creek 9, Eastern Wayne 2 -- Alan Coor and Chad Spurgeon combined to strike out 10 batters for the Gators. Chandler Cannon paced Spring Creek (1-0 overall) with three hits, including a home run. Trey Hammond added two hits in the win.
