LOUISBURG -- Five Eastern Wayne grapplers posted unbeaten individual records during a multi-team, dual meet contested Saturday at perennial powerhouse Louisburgh High School.
The Warriors (16-10 overall) defeated Louisburg, Roanoke Rapids and Person County. Their only loss came against Wake Forest-Rolesville.
"(The) team had a strong day, in a strong field," said Eastern Wayne head coach Jonathan Jones. "The guys did well. They wrestled strong and never quit in any of the matches. It was really good to have Eric Lemmon back.
"This helps strengthen our lineup so much."
Lemmon compiled a 3-0 worksheet.
Austin Helm, James Barrett and heavyweight Calvin Christian each ended the day 4-0. Dante Jackson was 3-0. Tyshawn Koonce, Jason Reid, Nolan Kirkwood and Jamel Barrett claimed two individual victories apiece.
Craig Smith went 1-0.
The Warriors were 19-20 overall in actual contested matches and drew 10 forfeits on the day, including six against Louisburg.
"The best part is that we continue to see improvement from all of our young guys," said Jones.
Eastern Wayne travels to Cleveland in the Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference, regular-season finale for both teams Tuesday. The Warriors and Rams will participate in the season-ending ECC Championships on Saturday at Charles B. Aycock.
