CHAPEL HILL -- The Mount Olive College men's and women's track and field teams combined to set 19 school records during their season-opening, indoor meet contested at the University of North Carolina on Saturday.

Freshman Decardo Cole, a Princeton High alum, accounted for three new marks -- 60-meter run (7.27 seconds), 200-meter run (23.14 seconds) and the high jump (1.95 meters or 6 feet, 43/4 inches).

Newcomers Ryan Henderson and Jamar Davis established new benchmarks in the 800 meters (2:04.32) and the mile (4:42.66), respectively. Sophomore Chris Bertrand logged a new record in the 500-meter run (1:10.70). The trio joined senior Cort McCombs to post a new mark in the 1,600-meter relay, crossing the line in 3:38.20.

Trey Darby (60-meter hurdles), Nick McAdam (triple jump) and returner Joe Murphy also set records on the day. Junior Paul Hoffman just missed breaking the school record in the 3,000-meter run, earning a fifth-place time of 8:55.77 -- the third-fastest run among non-Division I competitors in the event.

On the women's side, freshman Alaytra Carswell had a part in three new school records. Teammates Cierra and Kierra Butler, Chelyn McCain and Chelsea Long each contributed a pair of new marks.

Carswell established new bests in the 60-meter (8.16 seconds) and 200-meter runs (26.9 seconds), and also ran the anchor leg for the 1,600-meter relay team (4:13.93). She was joined on the relay by Cierra Butler, Kierra Butler and McCain.

Cierra Butler posted a new record in the 400 meters (1:04.95), while Kierra Butler recorded a new record in the 60-meter hurdles (9.91 seconds). McCain set a new mark in the 500 meters (1:26.27), and Long set new records in both the mile (5:26.03) and the 3,000-meters (10:47.97). Long placed seventh overall in the 3,000 among a field of 20, and third among non-Division I runners.

Sophomore Tiondra Miller rounded out the new records with her performance in the 800-meter run (2:36.79).

The Trojans return to action Feb. 12.
