WINTERVILLE -- Injury-riddled Eastern Wayne took a short-handed team to the South Central Duals, and matured a little bit Friday evening.

The Warriors (12-9 overall) took out some frustrations on East Carteret and Greene Central, and dropped a decision against county rival Rosewood. Craig Smith, who is lost for the season, and Ryan Bott, who was injured in a loss to Aycock just 24 hours earlier, did not suit up.

"We were hurt," said Eastern Wayne head coach Jonathan Jones. "Nolan (Kirkwood) and Austin (Helm) were banged up, but able to wrestle. Still, I saw a team show up and give everything they had."

Helm and 215-pounder James Barrett each posted a 3-0 worksheet on the night. Warren Kirkwood, Jamel Barrett and Dante Jackson each concluded the multiple dual-team event 2-0. Heavyweight Calvin Christian compiled a 2-1 record.

Brice Heller, Brandon Gray, Nolan Kirkwood, Quadrick Williams and Rashaun Pridgen each won one match.

Eastern Wayne forfeited 10 matches against Rosewood, but prevailed in three of the four contested individual bouts. Helm, James Barrett and Christian each emerged victorious against their county foe.

"We clearly did not have our best outing of the year, but from my point of view we did some important growing as a team through adversity," said Jones.
