D.J. Conley captures Pilkington Duals

PIKEVILLE -- D.H. Conley emerged victorious during the annual Pilkington Duals held at C.B. Aycock High School on Friday afternoon.
The Vikings held off a challenge from perrenial power Wilson Beddingfield to win the team championship. Rosewood finished third in the team standings, while C.B. Aycock took fourth place, Eastern Wayne fifth and Princeton seventh in the nine-team field.
The hosts defeated Princeton 75-6 and bested North Johnston 48-32 before falling to Beddingfield by three points. Rosewood ended the Golden Falcons' day with a 50-27 triumph.
C.B. Aycock will host South Johnston tonight in Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference action.
Eastern Wayne collected three wins and showed a lot of improvement according to head coach Jonathan Jones.
"We are still a young team many of the guys showed improvements even in some of the losses," said Jones. "Nolan Kirkwood showed great leadership today and helped anchor the team with the absence of some others. Jamal Barrett and Craig Smith showed great improvements on the mat."
Eastern Wayne will host Triton on Tuesday.
Rosewood delivered the highlight of the day in team competition with an 83-0 win over Tarboro. Jacob Holliday set the tone for the Eagles at 103 pounds with a pin.
"Jacob got a real confidence builder defeating Steven Barrera who is an 11th grader and was 14-1 going into the match," Rosewood head coach Bill Edmonson said. "Jacob caught Steven in a defensive pin to win the match."
Rosewood also defeated Greene Central (71-6), Eastern Wayne (69-12) and C.B. Aycock. The Eagles' lone loss came to D.H. Conley (46-38).
Rosewood travels to Wilson Fike on Tuesday.
