That's not to mention the eastern individual regional championships, which start today in Snow Hill, Wilson and Greenville.
* Aycock, which has won five consecutive ECC tournament soccer crowns, entertains seventh-seeded Cleveland at 6 p.m. Saturday. The Golden Falcons (13-6-2 overall) swept the regular-season series against the Rams, a first-year team that finished winless in conference action.
Third-seeded Eastern Wayne (7-8-0) entertains North Lenoir at 3 p.m. Saturday, while fourth-seeded Southern Wayne (7-9-0) plays host to 2009 ECC tournament runner-up Triton at 4 p.m. The Saints, led by Jesus Rodriguez and Jose Rodriguez, are hosting a tournament game for the first time in Mario Aguilar's tenure as head coach.
Should the Warriors and Saints each emerge victorious, they will clinch a berth in the state playoffs. The county rivals, who finished in a four-way tie with Aycock and Triton for second place, could possibly face each other in a "play-in" match to determine the league's No. 3 seed depending on their advancement in the conference tournament.
Two-time, regular-season champ South Johnston is the No. 1 seed.
The semifinals are Monday with the title contest slated for Wednesday.
* Wayne Christian (13-7-0) received an at-large bid to the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association 1-A boys' soccer playoffs. The Eagles drew the No. 9 seed and an opening-round contest at eighth-seeded Davidson Day School. Kickoff is 3:30 p.m. today.
Greg Alexander and Chase Darden lead the Eagles with 20 and 15 goals, respectively. Alexander is the county's second-leading scorer, while Darden is fifth.
Just eight teams selected in the 16-team bracket posted winning records during regular-season play.
* Rosewood, which clinched the Carolina 1-A Conference tournament title on Wednesday, opens the volleyball playoffs at home Saturday. The Eagles (18-4) entertain wild-card entry Yeatesville Northside. First serve is 4 p.m.
Princeton (13-8) plays host to Northampton-West and North Duplin travels to Coastal Plains member Dixon.
In 3-A, C.B. Aycock (10-9) heads to the coast for a 2 p.m. contest with South Brunswick. North Lenoir, the ECC's No. 3 seed, is the guest of perennial powerhouse D.H. Conley.
* Eastern Wayne takes its entire starting lineup to the 3-A east tennis regionals today at the Barton College Tennis Athletic Complex. Miller Delbridge and Amber Miller will compete in singles, while teammates Janielle Daniel-Joann Talton and Grace Delbridge-Jackie Johnson will participate in doubles.
Aycock's Abbey Strickland-Katie Gurley and Harlie Howard-Misty Edwards will battle on the doubles scene. Southern Wayne's Jessica Best qualified for singles.
In 1-A, Spring Creek's Emily Daniel will play singles. Teammates Colleen Finlay-Brittany Carmack are in the doubles draw.
