PIKEVILLE -- Lady Luck stuck around.

But she almost changed partners, again, Tuesday evening.

Upstart Triton came within 64 seconds of claiming its first-ever triumph over perennial powerhouse Charles B. Aycock on the Hardy Talton Stadium pitch.

Michael Fearney had other plans.

The senior striker slipped the game-tying goal into the net in regulation and the Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference foes battled to a 3-3, overtime draw. The deadlock kept the Golden Falcons in position for the No. 2 seed for the conference tournament, which begins Saturday.

"I'm proud of my boys for rebounding. We could have easily given up with the wind knocked out of our sails, but they came out and fought in overtime," said Triton head coach Joe Miriello. "They put themselves in position to win. We just couldn't squeeze it out."

Aycock leads the series 4-0-1 since Triton joined the ECC in 2009.

The injury-riddled Golden Falcons, who haven't played at full strength all season, broke the scoreless draw in the 19th minute. Keeper Brandon Davis booted a long free kick from near midfield into the box and Triton goalie Brendan Turlington came off his line to grab the ball.

The Golden Falcons' Chase Thompson jumped up between two Hawk defenders and headed the ball into the net. It was Davis' first assist of the season and Thompson's fourth goal.

Triton (8-4-4 overall, 6-3-2 ECC) collected the equalizer in the 34th minute. Jorge Castillo, who dished out three assists in the 100-minute affair, crossed the ball into the box. Sophomore midfielder Edgar Ortiz ripped a low, right-footed shot past a diving Davis into the net.

Thompson assisted on Aycock's second goal, a header by Tyler Lynch in the 47th minute. Lynch has eight goals this season, while Thompson, who played on a gimpy ankle, collected his fourth assist.

Triton answered with consecutive goals within a five-minute stretch. Daniel Goff scored twice off Castillo assists, but Aycock head coach Kevin Adkins felt otherwise.

"I thought Triton's third goal was a handball and they were offsides, but the referee calls it the way he sees it, so I didn't protest it (too much)," said Adkins. "You just go on from there. You never lose a game because of the referee."

Turlington, who logged nine saves, turned away several headers by Aycock in the two 10-minute OT sessions. The Golden Falcons finished with a 21-15 advantage in shots and 4-2 edge in corner kicks.

Davis posted seven saves.

Aycock (13-5-2, 6-3-2) concludes regular-season play at home today against Southern Wayne. Kickoff is 7 p.m.
