RED OAK -- Adron Hollowell belted a grand slam and tallied five RBI as C.B. Aycock hammered Northern Nash 10-0 on Wednesday afternoon.

The Golden Falcons tallied just three hits, but were aided by 13 walks.

Tyler Farmer and Travis Musselman each added one hit.

Aaron Champion earned the win on the pitcher's mound after taking over for starter Bryant Stafford.

C.B. Aycock (17-1 overall) travels to Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference foe North Lenoir on Friday evening.

Saints win

DUDLEY -- Southern Wayne got a sterling pitching performance from Jeremy Taylor in a 6-3 win over West Craven on Wednesday afternoon.

Taylor allowed only one hit over 62/3 innings of work. Josh Crawford recorded the game's final out to get the save.

Taylor Gainey led the Saints at the plate with two hits, including a double. Cody Davis and Breyon Johnson each ripped a double in the victory.

Southern Wayne (9-8 overall) travels to Triton on Friday.

EWHS falls

Eastern Wayne scored early, but could not hold a lead in an 8-3, non-conference loss to New Hanover on Wednesday afternoon.

Josh Fields pitched four solid innings, but ran into trouble in the fifth inning when a home run broke the game open for the Wildcats.

Colton Fulghum did most of the Warriors' offensive damage with two hits, including an RBI triple.

Eastern Wayne (8-9 overall) jumps back into Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference play on Friday at South Johnston.

Eagles soar

DURHAM -- Wayne Christian played a near flawless game defensively en route to an 11-5 win over Trinity of Durham on Wednesday afternoon.

Chandler Harrell pitched a complete game to earn the mound win.

Dylan Smith led the Eagles at the plate with two hits and two RBI. Gregory Johnson, Steven Gallagher and Travis Thomas each added one hit in the win.

Wayne Christian (8-7 overall) entertains Northwood Temple on Monday.

Softball

Dawgs prevail

PRINCETON -- Traci Bridgers tossed a complete game as Princeton bested Johnston County rival Smithfield-Selma 6-4 in non-conference softball action on Wednesday night.

Bridgers allowed seven hits and tallied two strikeouts in the pitcher's circle.

Meagan Jarrell led the Bulldawgs at the plate with three hits. Hannah Wood belted a home run in the victory.

Princeton (7-4 overall) travels to Ayden-Grifton on Friday.

Falcons grounded

GREENVILLE -- J.H. Rose scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning, and held off C.B. Aycock 4-3 on Wednesday night.

Ashley Shingleton took the loss in the pitcher's circle.

Rachel Jordan and Sarah Beth Marquis each tallied two hits for the Golden Falcons. Brooke Bell and Autumn Pittman each finished with one hit.

C.B. Aycock (9-4 overall) plays host to North Lenoir on Friday.

Soccer

Chargers escape

Sara Best tallied two goals and Wayne Country Day slipped past Oakwood 4-3 in a Coastal Plains Independent 1-A Conference match.

Mack Thompson and Catherine Ford each added one goal.

The Chargers (8-4-0 overall, 4-1-0 CPIC) continue their four-match road swing today at Waccamaw Academy.

Warriors win

FOUR OAKS -- Eastern Wayne converted on two South Johnston miscues en route to a 2-0, Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference win on Wednesday night.

Amber Miller scored in the 68th minute when she converted a penalty kick following a South Johnston handball. Lindsey Underwood tallied the Warriors' second goal when her corner kick deflected into the net off the Trojans' keeper.

Eastern Wayne (7-4-0 overall, 5-0-0 ECC) owned a 10-1 advantage in shots on goal.

The Warriors entertain Triton on Monday.

Tennis

Saints win

KINSTON -- Southern Wayne defeated North Lenoir 6-3 on the Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference tennis scene on Tuesday.

Kobi Hood, Brandon Outlaw and Alan Nunez each earned a singles victory for the Saints.

Southern Wayne swept doubles action as the duos of Hood-Outlaw, Nunez-Allen Cansler and Bennie Segura-Cameron Thames each prevailed.

The Saints (9-3 overall) play host to South Johnston today.

Eagles edged

DURHAM -- Trinity of Durham prevailed at No. 3 doubles and handed Wayne Christian a 5-4 loss in Carolina Christian 1-A Conference play Tuesday afternoon.

It was the Eagles' first loss of the season.

Taylor Gray and Christopher Easom each earned a singles point for Wayne Christian. The tandems of Grey-Easom and Daniel Glover-Woody Sasser each seized a doubles point.

Grey and Easom remained unbeaten in singles and doubles play.

The Eagles (5-1 overall, 1-1 CCC) travel to Grace Christian of Raleigh next Tuesday.

Golf

Eagles third

WILSON -- Wayne Christian fired a four-man team score of 187 to finish third in the Carolina Christian 1-A Conference golf match hosted by Community Christian on Wednesday.

Davis Taylor led the Eagles with a nine-hole round of 39. Taylor Gardner (42), Bryson Tart (49) and Nathan Taylor (57) rounded out the team total.

The conference teams will meet again on Tuesday at Wildwood Greens in Raleigh.

Walnut Creek LGA

Evelyn Rose claimed play-of-the-day honors during weekly tournament action at Walnut Creek Country Club.

Beverly Ives and Kathy Woodard shared first low gross, while Novella Zambelli won first low net. Mary Morris and Nancy Satterfield took second low gross and second net, respectively.

Jewel Ivey had low putts for the field.

In an Eastern League Ladies event, Zambelli had second gross in second flight play. Faye Franklin and Rose had first and second net, respectively, in the same flight.

Satterfield had first gross in third flight. Betty Holloway claimed second gross in fifth flight, while Dot Julian claimed second net. Pete Reaves had low putts.

JV sports

* Baseball: Southern Wayne 15, West Craven 1 -- Andrew Medlin earned the win on the pitcher's mound after taking over for Jacob Sasser. Southern Wayne improved to 6-8 overall.

Middle schools

* Softball: Princeton 9, North Johnston 1 -- Charley Cox and Savannah Massengill each delivered three hits and Logan Pace added two hits. Massengill emerged as the winning pitcher with 12 strikeouts.

* Soccer: Eastern Wayne 7, Rosewood 1 -- Megan Mozingo recorded a hat trick (three goals) for the Warriors. Kayla Wiebe added two goals. Zhane Wade and Amy Baddour each scored one goal in the win. Danielle Cornman tallied the Eagles' lone goal. Eastern Wayne improved to 5-1 overall.

Dixie Youth Baseball

* Minor League: Mount Olive Saints 13, Goldsboro Optimist 0 -- Aryc Chrisman rapped an inside-the-park home run and doubled for the Saints. Brandon Chase added a double. Teammates Seth Thompson, Austin Taylor and Jaylen Mitchell each collected a single.
