Trojans split baseball twinbill with St. Andrews

LAURINBURG -- Cellar-dwelling St. Andrews stunned No. 2-ranked Mount Olive College in extra innings during their opening game Saturday afternoon.

The Knights knocked off the Trojans 11-10 in 10 innings, giving them just their fifth victory of the season in 27 outings. MOC rebounded with a 14-7 decision in the nightcap, which knotted the weekend series at one game apiece heading into today's contest.

Jeremy Nowak recorded four hits in the twinbill, and extended his school-record hitting streak to 28 games.

North Carolina transfer Mike Knox belted his 18th homer of the season during a seven-run, third-inning outburst in game two. Carter Capps threw a complete game to help save the MOC bullpen.

Jesse Lancaster and Airlon Vinson each slugged a home run in game one. However, St. Andrews capitalized on six Mount Olive errors and handed the Trojans just their second loss in 14 conference contests this season.

The loss snapped MOC's nine-game win streak.

The Trojans return home for a critical Southeast Region series Tuesday and Wednesday against Armstrong Atlantic State (Ga.) University. First pitch is 7 p.m. Tuesday and 2 p.m. Wednesday.
