Eventually, the shots began to fall.

After enduring a first half in which the team made just one 3-point field goal, Greenfield turned its cold shooting around in a 48-43, overtime victory over Wayne Christian on Monday night.

The Knights connected on six shots from behind the arc after the intermission.

"I thought we did a good job in the opening half by not allowing their shooters to get going," said Wayne Christian head coach Lee Price. "We just couldn't keep them off the scoreboard forever."

The Eagles opened up an early lead thanks to some hot shooting by guards Jennifer Price and Kayla Kennedy. Each sank a 3-pointer as the Eagles built a 12-5 advantage.

Ashley Hughes kept the Knights within scoring distance. The talented forward scored 14 points and tallied 14 rebounds in the opening half as the Knights cut the deficit to two points at intermission.

"We were doing a pretty good job of keeping everyone else off the glass in the first half," said coach Price. "But in the second half we allowed their guards to get in their and help on the boards."

The Knights built a five-point lead early in the fourth quarter.

Wayne Christian answered with baskets by Kaitlyn Kosuda and Jennifer Price that gave the Eagles a 40-39 lead with 11 seconds to play in regulation. Hughes rescued the Knights by making a free throw after a strong drive to the hoop.

"I thought they stole the momentum by tying it up in the final seconds," said Price. "They made a couple shots that put us away right after that."

Hughes scored the first bucket of the extra session and was followed by a pair of 3-pointers from Walker Findlea. Ahead 48-40 with two minutes to play, the Knights focused on running out the clock.

Hughes finished with 22 points and 24 rebounds. Findlea scored 13 points and grabbed five boards for the Knights (10-7 overall).

Kosuda finished with 10 points and 10 boards to pace the Eagles. Kennedy and Price each added nine points apiece in the loss.

Wayne Christian (8-6) will play host to Community Christian on Friday night.
