McIntyre pours in 25 points, helps Warriors pick up 1st ECC win of season

Tiarra McIntyre sizzled the nets for a game-high 25 points and Eastern Wayne dumped county archrival Southern Wayne 59-39 in an Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference girls' basketball affair Friday evening.
McIntyre scored in double figures for the 10th time this season and the Warriors earned their first ECC victory of 2010 in four tries.
"We played well, pretty much the same we have done (in conference), but we've just lost a lot of close ones," said Eastern Wayne head coach Tyrone Wagner. "We stepped it up just a little bit."
The Warriors (2-10 overall, 1-3 ECC) used a 17-4 run to build a 32-17 lead at halftime. The Saints pulled within 33-27 midway through the third quarter until Wagner's club answered with a game-clinching 9-2 surge.
Danielle Daniel, Shontae Boseman and Carly Givens supplied eight points apiece for Eastern Wayne. Daniel dished out a team-high seven assists, while Boseman controlled the glass with 12 rebounds.
The Warriors had 19 assists on 24 made field goals.
Kayla Powell emerged Southern Wayne's offensive leader with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Ineka Williams and Danielle Carlton contributed eight and seven points, respectively.
The Saints (2-12) fell to 1-3 in league play.
Cougars roll
Goldsboro placed four scorers in double figures and forced 30 turnovers in a 74-21 victory over Carolina 1-A Conference foe Spring Creek on Friday night inside Norvell T. Lee Gymnasium.
The Cougars held the Gators to just four points in the second quarter, didn't allow a point in the fourth quarter and didn't allow a double-figure scorer.
"That was the best effort for 32 minutes that we've given all year long," said Goldsboro head coach Brandy Smith. "We played defense for 32 minutes. Everything I've asked them to do all year long they did that from start to finish tonight."
Kasheika Wallace led the Cougars with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Zeara McDuffie supplied 14 points, Akeyanna Whitlor had 12 points and Alexus Myles pitched in 10. All 10 players who got in the game for Goldsboro scratched in the scoring column.
"Everybody got in the books tonight," said Smith. "Kasheika Wallace stepped it up for us tonight. She was in the right place at the right time. She was confident with the basketball. Everybody was able to play and everybody was able to contribute."
Savannah Egleston scored nine points for Spring Creek and Melanquie DeVeaux contributed eight points.
The Cougars (12-4 overall, 4-0 CC) travel to Ayden-Grifton on Tuesday night and Spring Creek (4-10, 2-2) entertains border rival North Duplin.
CBA defeated
PIKEVILLE -- Triton turned back Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference opponent Charles B. Aycock 54-35 on Friday night.
Courtnei Gilbert and Imari Howell both scored 11 points for the Golden Falcons.
Aycock (9-8 overall, 2-2 ECC) visits Southern Wayne on Tuesday.
WCDS victorious
Two-time defending Coastal Plains Independent 1-A champion Wayne Country Day picked up a 51-46 home win over league rival Oakwood on Friday night.
Catherine Ford led the Chargers with 25 points and Hannah Pearson added 12 points. Kim Martell and Sarah Best each had six points.
Wayne Country Day (9-9 overall, 4-0 CPIC) entertains Greenfield on Tuesday night.
Eagles escape
Wayne Christian outscored Grace Christian 16-5 in overtime and captured a key, 53-42 victory in Carolina Christian 1-A Conference play Friday evening at Clifford Gymnatorium.
Kaitlyn Kosuda posted a double-double -- 18 points, 13 rebounds in the Eagles' win. Hanna Kaler recorded 14 points, 15 rebounds, two steals and an assist.
Kayla Kennedy supplied six points, five rebounds and four assists. Brooke Barfield (five points), Courtney Barrow (four points), Alaina Moore, Jennifer Price and Carly Hightower each contributed to the victory.
Wayne Christian (8-5 overall, 6-2 CCC) entertains Greenfield on Monday.
Boys' basketball
Raynor lifts Eagles
CALYPSO -- Jacquez Raynor hit a half-court shot as time expired to lift Rosewood to a 47-44 comeback win at Carolina 1-A Conference opponent North Duplin on Friday night.
The Rebels' Devin Oliver hit a 3-pointer with two seconds remaining to create a 44-44 tie before Raynor delivered the game-winning shot.
North Duplin held an 11-point lead at the half, but the Eagles outscored the Rebels 16-2 in the third quarter. Rosewood knocked down 9 of 12 free throws in the fourth quarter.
Raynor led the Eagles with 11 points and Antonio Henriques added 10 points. North Duplin's James Kornegay scored a game-high 21 points and Oliver had 10.
Rosewood (7-10 overall, 2-2 CC) plays host to Princeton on Tuesday night and North Duplin (0-15, 0-4) visits Spring Creek.
Dogs' saddle Chargers
PRINCETON -- Matt Williamson scored a career-high 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds as Princeton rolled past Carolina 1-A Conference opponent Ayden-Grifton 79-61 on Friday night.
David Gurganus scored 14 points and dished out seven assists. Wes Wood chipped in 13 points, while Patrick Jacobs had eight points. Benton Myers distributed 12 assists.
The Bulldogs (9-7 overall, 3-1 CC) travel to Rosewood on Tuesday night.
Golden Falcons prevail
PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock bounced back from a loss to rival Eastern Wayne on Tuesday night with a 70-52 win over Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference opponent Triton on Friday night.
Dontay Gills led the Golden Falcons with 17 points and pulled down six rebounds. Brandon Winford finished with 16 points and seven rebounds. Isaac Ryals supplied 12 points, nine rebounds, five assists and four steals.
Tyheim Pitt had six points and eight rebounds.
Aycock (14-2 overall, 3-1 ECC) visits Southern Wayne on Tuesday.
Faith downs Falls Road
Faith Christian earned a 73-50, homecoming victory over N.C. Christian Schools Association 2-A Falls Road on Friday night.
David Sladick paced the Conquerors with 16 points. Drew Floars scored 12 points and Wes Caudle had 11. Chris Powell and Nick Gurley each provided seven points.
Faith (10-4 overall) is the guest of Neuse Christian on Tuesday.
WCDS chops Oakwood
Tim Hobbs poured in 25 points to lead Wayne Country Day past Coastal Plains Independent 1-A foe Oakwood 76-62 on Friday night.
Reco McCarter added 21 points and eight rebounds. Brandon McCarter supplied seven points and nine rebounds.
The Chargers play host to Greenfield on Tuesday.
