LEWISVILLE -- Wayne Country Day recorded a 56-42 win over Ragsdale on Saturday in the Mercedes-Benz Invitational at Forsyth Country Day School.

Tim Hobbs led the Chargers with 17 points and eight rebounds. Reco McCarter added 15 points, nine rebounds and seven assists.

Wayne Country Day (4-3 overall) entertains Waccamaw Academy on Tuesday.

Gators defeated

DEEP RUN -- Spring Creek suffered a 63-51 loss at South Lenoir on Friday.

The Blue Devils used an 8-0 run to close the third quarter and extend their lead to 10 points.

Melvin DeVeaux scored 12 points for the Gators, while Kenneth Freeman added 11.

Spring Creek visits Harrells Christian Academy on Tuesday.

Eagles tripped up

RALEIGH -- Grace Christian dealt Wayne Christian a 55-41 loss on Saturday afternoon.

Luke Howell paced the Eagles with 11 points and six rebounds. Taylor Johnson supplied 10 points and Chandler Harrell had eight points and 14 rebounds.

Wayne Christian (1-4 overall) travels to Crossroads Christian on Tuesday.

Girls' basketball

WCS earns win

RALEIGH -- Wayne Christian defeated Grace Christian 46-39 on Saturday.

Hannah Kaler provided 19 points, 11 rebounds, two steals and one assist. Kaitlyn Kosuda added 12 points, 11 rebounds, two steals and an assist.

The Eagles (3-2 overall) are the guests of Crossroads Christian on Tuesday.

* Girls' basketball: Wayne Christian 25, Grace Christian 24 -- Jessica Swets led Wayne Christian with 12 points and four steals and Britney O'Hara had six points and four steals. Katie Isenhower contributed eight rebounds and two blocks and Haley Greenwood chipped in four steals.

* Girls' basketball: Wayne Christian 24, Wayne Country Day 0 -- Sara Davis scored a game-high 11 points to go with 20 rebounds, four blocks and three steals. Kayla Whitley added five points and nine steals. Jordan Calvert pitched in four points, five rebounds and four steals. Katie Caviness supplied four points, five steals and four rebounds. Brittany Mazur had two rebounds and a steal.
