WILSON -- William Stakes recorded the "golden goal" in the first overtime session as Barton edged in-state rival Mount Olive 2-1 on the Conference Carolinas men's soccer scene on a soggy Wednesday evening.
The Trojans are 1-5 in one-goal games this season.
Each team misfired on its first shot attempt in overtime. A Mount Olive foul gave Barton a free kick from 30 yards out as the seconds ticked away. Chris Tripp played the ball to Stakes, who finished off the play and the Trojans, who remained winless on the road this season.
Matt Cargile put MOC on the board in the 51st minute off an assist from Vincent Fluellen. The Dawgs countered with Tripp's game-tying goal off Richard Worthy's assist in the 75th minute.
Barton owned a 13-11 edge in total shots.
Trojans keeper Zac Scott recorded five saves.
Mount Olive (5-8-0 overall, 2-5-0 CC) entertains No. 1-ranked Lees-McRae on Saturday. Kickoff is 7 p.m. at Amon Field.
