Defending Carolina Christian 1-A Conference regular-season champion Wayne Christian steamrolled Trinity-Durham 8-1 at Herman Park on Friday afternoon.

The state-ranked Eagles (8-0 overall) picked up their third CCC victory of the season. They continue league play Monday at Grace Christian.

Brooke Barfield, Faith Sutton, Savannah Sutton, Blake Govan and Taylor Willman each won singles matches for the Eagles.

The doubles teams of Barfield-Faith Sutton, Savannah Sutton-Govan and Willman-Samantha Reaves were also victorious.

Volleyball

WCS falls

Wayne Christian suffered a 25-17, 25-23, 25-12 loss to Carolina Christian 1-A Conference foe Trinity-Durham inside Clifford Gymnatorium on Friday afternoon.

Jessica Swets contributed five digs and four kills. Hanna Kaler pitched in six assists and four kills. Kaitlyn Kosuda provided three kills and two blocks.

Crissi Brogneaux and Britney O'Hara had seven digs apiece defensively.

The Eagles (9-4 overall, 5-3 CCC) travels to Grace Christian on Tuesday.

Cross country

Trinity sweeps

Trinity-Durham swept both the boys and girls portions of a four-team, Carolina Christian 1-A Conference meet hosted by Wayne Christian at Waynesborough Park on Friday.

Trinity's boys compiled a meeting-winning 42 points. Grace Christian finished second with 53, followed by Wayne Christian (58) and Cresset Christian (63).

Wayne Christian's Connor Jones was the top male runner with a time of 19 minutes and 10 seconds. The Eagles' Mark Sawyer crossed the line in sixth place in 21:26 and Will Massey was 13th in 22:58.

Trinity earned a team score of 20 points, while Grace posted 33 points ahead of Wayne Christian's 41 on the girls' side.

Jennifer Price was the Eagles' top female finisher with a time of 27:28 and teammate Christina Foster was 10th in 30:58. Kayla Kennedy came home in 11th place in 32:51.

Wayne Christian plays host to Princeton on Monday at Waynesborough Park.
