MOUNT OLIVE -- Ramon Gallardo collected the game-winning goal in the 79th minute as the Mount Olive College men's soccer team nipped Methodist University 2-1 on Wednesday evening at Amon Field.
The teams played 10 on 10 for the final 36 minutes after a double red card was assessed.
Tied at 1-1, Adrian Daniels carried the ball across midfield near the left sideline late in the second half. Daniels worked through a double team and centered the ball to Gallardo, who carried the ball about 10 yards and blasted a shot into the net.
It was Gallardo's second goal this season.
Methodist just missed scoring an equalizing goal in the final two minutes.
Mount Olive (3-0-0 overall) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute on Scott Mitchell's goal off Kirk Peterson's assist. The Monarchs recorded a penalty kick in the 28th minute and the score remained tied until Gallardo connected in the second half.
