WILSON -- Wayne Country Day scored three times in the second half and earned a 3-0 win over Franklinton at the Brittany on Friday night.

Tyson Pearson's goal on an assist from brother Tucker five minutes into the second half gave the Chargers a 1-0 lead. Tyson Pearson struck again three minutes later on a diving header off a corner kick from Tucker Pearson.

Cody Neal added the final goal in the 60th minute on a breakaway and beat the Franklinton keeper one-on-one.

Wayne Country Day (2-0) plays host to Wayne Christian on Monday.

Volleyball

Eagles still perfect

WILSON -- Wayne Christian remained unbeaten with a 25-11, 25-20, 25-21 Carolina Christian 1-A Conference win at Community Christian on Friday.

Senior setter Hanna Kaler handed out 20 assists and Brittney O'Hara provided eight kills. Kaitlyn Kosuda pitched in seven kills and Jessica Swets had five. Summer Brathwaite added five kills and two blocks and Crissi Brogneaux supplied five digs. Haley Greenwood contributed eight aces.

The Eagles (4-0, 2-0 CCC) entertain Bethel Christian on Monday.

Cross Country

WCS hosts meet

Wayne Christian hosted its first cross country meet of the season with Faith Christian of Rocky Mount, Grace Christian of Raleigh and Kerr-Vance Academy on Friday at Waynesborough Park.

Kerr-Vance claimed the boys portion of the meet with a team score of 36.2. Faith of Rocky Mount was second with 64.3 points ahead of Wayne Christian's 72.4. Grace Christian finished fourth with 74 points.

Connor Jones of Wayne Christian was the first individual male finisher with a time of 20:01. The Eagles' Will Massey and Will Garner finished 15th and 16th respectively.

Grace Christian compiled a team score of 18.2 to win the girls portion of the meet. Faith of Rocky Mount (24.9), Wayne Christian (50) and Kerr-Vance (51) rounded out the team scoring.

Grace's Sinclaire Owen was the female individual winner with a time of 22:47. Wayne Christian's Jennifer Price finished in seventh-place with a time of 28:39. Christina Foster and Kayla Kennedy were 12th and 13th respectively.
